Dean's Council Minutes: Jan. 3, 2012

I. Substitute Attendance

Mara instituted a new policy that Council Members can send a substitute to meetings in the event that they are unable to attend. In the coming months, Peter Spitzform and Albert Joy will take turns attending meetings while Tina’s position remains open.

II. Time Reporting for Non-Exempt Staff

An Open Lab with Tara Messier will be held on Friday, Jan. 13 at 8 a.m. in the I&IS Classroom. Please read the Mini Manual before attending the Lab session as it will not be a step-by-step instruction session. http://www.uvm.edu/hrs/?Page=info/general/timereporting.html If you would like to attend an Open Lab but this session does not work for your schedule, please go to www.uvm.edu/hrs for more times. Sample of other Open Labs times, held in Billings 165: Jan. 9th 1-3pm; Jan. 13th 9:30-11:30am; and Jan 18th 1-3pm.

III. Faculty Promotions

Applications for promotions have been turned in to the Provost’s Office. Results will be announced in May. Faculty reappointments are next on the to-do list.

IV. Campaign Priority Submissions

The Council spent most of the meeting reviewing priorities for the fundraising campaign. Submissions were due electronically to the UVM Foundation on Jan. 4. These specific submissions are program-based not “bricks and mortar.” The priorities will be announced in the Spring. After much vetting, and reviewing of projects, goals, initiatives, Libraries’ submissions included support for Digital Initiatives/Institutional Repository; Learning Commons Programming; Billings Programming; Promoting Diversity and Global Outreach; and the CTL.

V. Presidential Search

The candidates will be announced mid January and will begin arriving on campus on Thursday, January 19.
