Second Annual Libraries Conference Day: A Smashing Success

The Second Annual Libraries Conference Day, Aug. 7, 2012, was informative, imaginative and highly entertaining.

Opening remarks by Dr. Mieder set the stage for smart, savvy (and some hilarious and some heartbreaking) presentations by Libraries' colleagues from across departments and disciplines:

Herding Cats, Knitting Fog, and Nailing Pudding to the Wall: Towards a Mixed-Methods Approach for Evaluating Social Media Marketing in Libraries, by Selene Colburn

Brain in a Jar: Writing about Alzheimer’s Disease, by Nancy Bercaw

Poster Sessions

Time-based Cataloging Priorities: Procedure with Context, by Amber Billey

Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Medical Librarianship, by Nancy Bianchi

Why Some Students Continue to Value Individual,Face-to-Face Research Consultations in a Technology-Rich World, by Trina Magi & Patricia Mardeusz

The Vermont Broadside Collection: No Longer Hidden, by Prudence Doherty & Sharon Thayer

Afternoon Session

Introducing Mobiles to Dana Medical Library: Successes & Challenges, by Fred Pond, Alice Stokes & Lesley Boucher

The Way That None of This Happened, by Michael Breiner

At Home and Abroad: The Multiple Values of LIS Student Internships, by Laurie Kutner

Creating Customized Serials Collections, by Daisy Benson

The conference served as a great reminder of what fascinating (and productive) people are behind the cubicles, walls and offices of our Libraries.

Congratulations go out to Katie Cooper for winning the $20 gift card to the bookstore. And many thanks go out to the event's organizing committee: Alison Armstrong, Sarah Paige, Prudence Doherty, and the two Nancy B's.

See you all next year!
